Many times we are asked to explain what kind of church we are. We like to answer that question by breaking it down into three basic answers.
1. Who are we?
VINEYARD CHURCH of CEDAR RAPIDS. We are a vibrant community of faith connected to a family of over 600 churches nationwide, making up
The Vineyard: A Community of Churches, USA.
2. Where are we going?
Our singular vision is to become KINGDOM PEOPLE...followers of Jesus Christ and His Kingdom rule and reign, seeking the indwelling and empowerment of the Holy Spirit for connecting with and serving both God and the people He brings into our lives. PASSION for GOD. COMPASSION for PEOPLE. PERIOD. Our global mission is to build a house of worship and compassion for all nations. Matthew 22: 37-40
3. How are we going to get there?
When asked how to best describe the DISCIPLESHIP NETWORK at his church, Vineyard founding pastor, John Wimber would often quip, ”Everybody gets to play!” Here at the Vineyard, we want to make room for YOU to be an important part of our church community as we progressively pursue SIX KINGDOM PRIORITIES linked with TWO KINGDOM ACTION WORDS. We view these principles as biblically-based mileposts, placed strategically along our journey of seeking first the Kingdom of God. Matthew 6: 33

TWO KINGDOM ACTION WORDS
ACTION WORD ONE.
Kingdom people believe that vibrant Christianity is all about relationships. We are called to intentionally CONNECT to both a passionate, loving relationship with God and vibrant, life-giving relationships with people around us. John 17: 20-21
ACTION WORD TWO.
Kingdom people believe that vibrant Christianity is all about freely giving away the rich blessings God has given us. Just as Jesus came to humbly bring God’s healing and hope, we too are called to SERVE God and His people by offering our time, energy & resources for Kingdom purposes. Romans 12: 6-8
SIX KINGDOM PRIORITIES
|
PRIORITY ONE. Kingdom people choose passionate WORSHIP as their first and highest priority. As the Westminster confession states, “The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever”. We believe that intimate relationship with our heavenly Father is best developed in this life through the on-going experience of Holy Spirit-led worship. John 4:23 |
|
PRIORITY TWO. Kingdom people are dedicated to following the truth found within God’s WORD . God’s ‘logos’ or living word is the plumb line for those of us who desire to live for God’s Kingdom, and it becomes the source of light for our journey through this life. Psalm 119 |
|
PRIORITY THREE. Kingdom people are relational. Out of the endless mercy & grace given to us from God, we reach out in love to build life-giving COMMUNITY with people around us. We look to build relationship with not just those who agree with us on everything, but we also have a willingness to reach beyond our differences with an attitude that says, “it’s many times more important to be reconciled than to be right”. Hebrews 10: 25 |
|
PRIORITY FOUR. Kingdom people do Kingdom MINISTRY . We believe that the ministry of healing, hope and transformation we see Jesus accomplishing in His life is the same ministry that God calls us to in our lives. We believe that every follower of Jesus can be used powerfully by the Spirit of God to continue the words and works of the Kingdom in our world today. John 14: 12 |
|
PRIORITY FIVE. Kingdom people always remain learners. We value on-going TRAINING and equipping. We know that every follower of Jesus is called to be a growing disciple of the Master, and like Jesus’ disciples of the first century, we are always looking to learn and grow in the ways of our Lord. Ephesians 4: 12-13 |
|
PRIORITY SIX. Kingdom people believe that Kingdom life means a willingness to generously give away every blessing the Lord has given to us. Jesus’ Great Commission is not a suggestion, but a command. Thus Kingdom people are a SENDING people, always looking to expand the blessings of the Kingdom across our neighborhood, our community, and yes, even across cultures and around the world. Matthew 28: 18-20 |
